One-on-One

Customized Instruction for Struggling Students

For each student we serve, we create a personalized learning plan to cultivate specific areas of weakness. Through one-on-one, therapeutic-grade customized instruction in an engaging, nurturing setting, the student develops cognitive abilities, expands language processing capacity, masters literacy and math skills, and builds the academic acumen to succeed in school and beyond.

This carefully tailored, encouraging process often helps the student gain executive function skills (such as self-regulation, cognitive flexibility, and organization), confidence, motivation, and a deep desire to overcome learning challenges. Personalized programs may be crafted to cultivate reading, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, writing, handwriting, math, study and organizational skills, memory, oral language, and/or auditory processing skills.

We provide life-changing intervention that honors both the Science of Learning and the Science of Reading. If you desire to provide your child with uncompromised, highly effective, one-on-one therapeutic-grade intervention, Apples of Gold is ready to partner with you to help your learner overcome learning difficulties, connect with his or her authentic potential, and soar!

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an in-person session look like?

What does a virtual session look like?

How do I sign up?

Simply click the Get Started button to complete the initial paperwork. Once this digital paperwork is submitted, you will receive an email with an invitation and link to schedule a complimentary phone call with an educational consultant. After you share your child’s educational history and learning challenges, the educational consultant will recommend services and next steps for your consideration.

Will my child always work with the same instructor?

Yes! We are committed to providing uncompromised educational care for your child. To help your child feel comfortable and nurtured, your child will meet several times each week with the same instructor. Your child’s instructor will adapt to your child’s personality and learning profile to optimize growth in skills, confidence, and mindset. If your child’s personal instructor is on vacation or unavailable due to illness, an experienced Apples instructor will meet with your child (temporarily) in place of his or her regular instructor.

When will my child be scheduled to meet with their teacher?

Once you complete the digital scheduling form for your child, we will carefully consider your child’s personality and learning profile to select an appropriate instructor. When selecting an interventionist to work one-on-one with your child, we analyze your child’s needs and work to craft a weekly (repeating) schedule that works well for your child.

Please understand that spaces are limited as we only provide one-on-one customized intervention with highly specialized interventionists and therapists. Accordingly, we frequently have waitlists for our customized instruction. With this in mind, please provide as much availability as possible when you are completing your child’s availability form. With good availability, we are typically able to create a convenient schedule that allows your child to begin one-on-one sessions with his or her personal interventionist within one to two weeks.

Will I get updates on how my child is doing?

Each week we will email you copies of your child’s completed Content Coverage Sheets. These copies will provide information about the skills and material that were covered (as well as applicable scores) during your child’s sessions from the preceding week. We also provide a thorough 45-minute Progress Consultation near the end of your child’s instruction contract to discuss your child’s growth, progress, and recommendations for continued customized intervention (if needed). Additionally, if you have questions or concerns anytime during your child’s instruction with Apples of Gold, you are welcome to email applesofgoldoffice@gmail.com with your questions or request a phone or Zoom consultation with one of our Educational Consultants.

How long are the sessions?

How many sessions will my child need per week?

Most struggling students benefit from two to three intensive sessions per week. Of course, the number of weekly sessions varies according to the child’s learning profile. Our Educational Consultant will coordinate with you to determine the optimal number of weekly sessions to support your child’s learning needs.

If your child will have in-person or virtual sessions after school or during the day (if they are homeschooled), we provide two, three or four 1-hour sessions per week. If your child will have virtual sessions from school, we provide four or five 30-minute sessions per week or three to four 45-minute sessions each week to allow adequate time to provide effective, intensive intervention and practice.

What happens when my contract is over?

A few weeks before your child’s instructional contract is complete, you will receive an email with a link inviting you to schedule a virtual Progress Consultation with an Educational Consultant. During the Progress Consultation, the Educational Consultant will review your child’s skill growth, progress, and recommendations for next steps. The Educational Consultant will also answer any questions you may have and provide support for concerns regarding your child’s response to school intervention/instruction, 504 Plan accommodations, or at-home learning/homework.

Every other contract, you will also receive a link to schedule standardized retesting for your child to be completed about a week before your Progress Consultation. This testing typically takes about 45-60 minutes to complete. The Educational Consultant will review the results from the standardized testing during the Progress Consultation with you.

The Progress Consultation email will also include a link to complete a form regarding your desire to continue with another contract for your child. Once this form is complete, our Financial Care Coordinator will email you a contract if you plan for your child to continue with therapeutic-grade customized instruction. If you prefer to wait until the Progress Consultation before deciding whether you would like for your child to continue, you are welcome to do so.

What is the average time a student is with Apples of Gold?

As students’ psychological, cognitive, and learning profiles are so different, the length of time that students receive customized, one-on-one services through Apples of Gold varies a great deal. We serve students who benefit from targeted skill development support for just a few months as well as those who need highly intensive, brain-changing customized intervention.

Some students attend for one summer and make wonderful progress; other learners attend Apples of Gold for 18-36 consecutive months to overcome learning challenges and make life-changing gains. Still other students, who have more complex profiles, may receive therapeutic-grade intervention for five or more years with us.

Since we are honored to serve a wide range of students, the length of time we serve students varies significantly from one learner to the next. Our desire is to help your child cultivate his or her potential for school and life success, so we work diligently with your son or daughter to build the necessary abilities, skills, and confidence such that he or she no longer needs Apples of Gold. We love for students to graduate beyond the need for us as that is the true measure of our success!
